In the desire to look good physically, avoid overweight and obesity, many people choose not very healthy options to achieve weight loss or to get rid of the “extra pounds” by taking “miracle” pills , do strict or strange diets and among other options decide to stop eating. Taking into account that the human body is a vehicle that moves everywhere and that has virtually no rest, but just as a vehicle lacks fuel, so the body requires food (energy) to maintain itself, otherwise it would not work as it should, and even stop working.

Not eating with the goal of losing weight is a big mistake. Why?

The organism feeds on glucose that is obtained from the food we consume daily and provides the necessary energy to perform its functions. When we pass a period of 6 hours without consuming food, enter an alternative energy metabolic process called “ketosis”, where lack of carbohydrates (glucose), begins to use body fat, which decomposes generates “ketone bodies” as a source of energy.

When it spends more time (72 hours), the brain begins to feel the lack of glucose, and the body begins to use muscle mass for energy, causing it to be lost. And not only lose muscle, but also vitamins and minerals and the immune system decreases making the body more prone to suffer infections and chronic degenerative diseases and cancer.

Reasons that people have not to eat or eat well:

  • Thinking that not eating helps lose weight.
  • Exaggerated ingestion of junk foods.

Important organizations for the well-being and the health, like World Health Organization (WHO) gives us a guide of the plate of the good eating, the foods are very important for the correct functioning of the organism, reason why it is recommended to eat:

  • 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • 4 servings of bread, rice, whole wheat pasta, preferably whole.
  • 3 moderate portions of red meat, poultry or fish; as well as nuts, beans, peas or lentils.
  • 1 serving of milk, cheese or yogurt.
  • A minimum of fats, oils and dressings.

It is important that you take into account that: Food is necessary for all living beings, there are also great varieties of food, however, not all provide the nutrients necessary for our health. If the body continues without receiving food, we all know where this story ends. One of the functions of eating and eating well is to stay alive. It depends on us that what we eat is the most recommended for our body.

Stop eating is not an option , the ideal is to take a proper diet and exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight. If we do not feed ourselves properly, our quality of life decreases, so it is important to consume foods rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, antioxidants … among others for better health.
